*Is, playing with her baby dolls*

“Mommy, this one needs a bottle… and this one needs a pacifier.”
“Mommy? Why does this baby have ears? Hey! They both have ears! Why do they have ears?”
“Most babies have ears; it’s part of normal development. We need them to hear.”
“But these babies can’t hear, right?”
“Well, they’re just toys…”
“They’re not alive, because they’re toys.”
“That’s right.”
“So… why do they have ears?”
“Um. They have ears because they’re supposed to look like real babies. So you can pretend to be a mommy to them.”
“Oh. That makes sense. Should you put her diaper on?”
