“Is, don’t touch the car, a bird pooped on it.”
“Right there, see?”
“Because why did a bird poop on our car?”
“I guess the bird was over the car when it had to poop.”
“Ohhh…. so it’s like a toilet!”

*So I fell and sprained my knee yesterday*
“Mommy, can I see the boo-boo on your knee?”
“Okay.” (I pull up my pant leg to show her).
“Hmmm.” She looks all around my knee, and then says,
“Let me see your OTHER knee.” (I comply…)
She studies both and says,
“Hmmm. Yep, that’s a big boo-boo.”
My daughter, the doctor!

“Ew! Isobel, please don’t blow your nose on me.”
“Because why?”
“Because it’s gross, that’s why. When you blow your nose, snot and boogers and gross stuff comes out of your nose… that’s why you use a tissue, not Mommy’s dress.”
“Can I have a tissue? I have lots of snots.”

“Mommy, why do I have to go to sleep?”
“Because you need to rest at night, so you can have fun and play during the day. And remember, we’ll see Grandma, and Billy and Margie for lunch tomorrow, so you really need some sleep.”
“But why?”
“Well, if you don’t sleep, you won’t grow, you won’t feel well, and then you’ll get sick.”
“I’m so comfy! Goodnight, beautiful girl!”

*Playing the I Spy game with Is*
“Please be gentle with the bell, Is.”
“Like this?”
~ding ding ding ding ding ding ding~
“That’s OK. Just don’t hit it so hard, it can break.”
~ding ding ding ding ding~
“Because why?”
“Because it’s a mechanical thing, with a little clapper inside to make the bell ring, and hitting it so hard can break the clapper.”
“But you can fix it, right? And if you can’t fix it, Daddy can fix it.”

“OK, Is, it’s naptime, so snuggle up and go right to sleep. Vaughan’s coming over for dinner later, and Munkle, and Aunt Lisa and Lucia, and Grandma and maybe Uncle Al…”
“Because why?”
“They’re coming to play Legos with you, and have dinner.”
“And I can hug them?
“Of course!”
“And I can pick out their clothes?”
“Well… they’ll probably be dressed already.”
“Grandma? Can I dress Grandma?”
“Ask her when she gets here.”
“I’m gonna hug her so much.”

June 26, 2014

“Mommy, why should I sleep in bare feet?”
“Because it’s hot out, Is, and it’s more comfy to sleep with no socks.”
“Because I’ll be too hot, right?”
“You’re right, Mommy. I AM comfy! Good night!”

“Mommy, why do I have sparkles in my eyes?”
“What? Did you get glitter in your eye?”
“No, when I rub them… I have sparkles…”
“Oh! Phew. When you press on your eyes, you see colors & lights because you’re squishing the blood vessels.”

And I wasn’t sure about that… so I looked it up, and…

*The pressure from rubbing your eyes mechanically stimulates the retina, causing pressure phosphenes.*
